Made-To-Order vs Custom-Made Jewelry: What’s the Difference?

Made-To-Order vs Custom-Made Jewelry: What’s the Difference?

Posted by Poppy Finch on

You may have seen made-to-order and custom-made often come up when shopping for jewelry. They sound similar, but are two different experiences. At Poppy Finch, we offer both rooted in craftsmanship, intention and timeless design. The only difference is in how your piece is brought to life.

What is Made-To-Order Jewelry?

Made-to-order jewelry is a selection of in-house designs that is crafted after your order is placed. The jewelry that you see on the Poppy Finch website are all in-house designs.  Each piece is crafted specifically for you rather than taken from stock. The design is set, but the craftsmanship is intentional — made fresh, just for you.

In many cases, we’re also able to make small adjustments to tailor the piece to your preferences, such as sizing or gemstone details.

Production Timeline: Most pieces take 3-7 business days for production. Sometimes, if materials are out of stock, it might take a bit longer — but don’t worry, we’ll keep you updated if it looks like it will take more than a week.

Explore our collection of made-to-order jewelry made with 14K & 18K solid gold.

What is Custom-Made Jewelry?

Custom pieces are created from the ground up and begin with a conversation. Whether you’re reimagining an heirloom, selecting a particular stone, or creating something entirely new, every step — from design to sourcing to final fabrication — is thoughtfully tailored to you. No two custom projects are ever the same.

Production Timeline: This process requires a longer timeline than made-to-order because it includes a tailored design process, and ordering materials that may not be in stock.
